He was the impetus behind the party meeting. ===== Before the campaign ===== At some point in the past, Baron Vanden and Delrune Mayze met and forged a friendship that persisted to the present day. ===== In the campaign ===== The farmers of Riverpond were reporting to the Baron that sheep were going missing and general destruction was happening on their property. Baron Vanden suspected foul play, as a mysterious priest had recently been through Riverpond. He sent a letter to Delrune Mayze, asking for assistance. He also sent news to neighbouring towns with a call for mercenaries. Baron Vanden met Ekhart and sent him to deal with the wolf attacks and to get to the bottom of what was happening in his town. He wanted nothing more than for the church to have no interest in his tiny town. After the party returned with news of the journal of Brother Waybrush, and his ultimate fate, the Baron wanted more answers. He knighted Sanglant and Egren Otter and tasked them with finding out what was happening. While Ekhart, Sanglant and Revana went south to follow the clues that Ekhart's brother was somehow behind this, the Baron sent The Lion Troupe north to make contact with the Duchess of Voltana for some unknown reason. Baron Vanden also opened a account with the Golden Bank for Sanglant that he would use to pay him for his service.
